HIGH-TECH GROUP GIVES ADVICE TO PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS

Posted at January 30, 2001 02:02 PM Pacific

THE AEA HIGH-TECH trade association submitted a report
to U.S. President George Bush and Congress Tuesday
detailing the group's list of public policy priorities
for 2001, including education, privacy issues,
taxation, broadband deployment, and international trade.

"You may be aware that the AEA is predominantly a
grassroots, member-driven organization," Richard
Martin, AEA's chairman, said in news conference
following the report's release. "This past fall, we
held a series of town hall meetings around the
country. Out of those meetings we bubbled up what were
the major concerns of our member companies. I don't
think you will find that there are any surprises here."

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"I'd bet the only reason anyone refers to XML as a
technology is because Microsoft has promoted it as a
replacement for Java. I assume Microsoft hopes that by the
time people notice that XML to Java is such a crackbrained
comparison, Microsoft will have shoved Java out of the
picture and replaced it with its C# language."
