I'll step up to the plate (maybe a bit sheepishly) <smile> I've been around
linux for a few years now, though new to Speakup. I can begin getting
things together and with some help from the "experts" I can put some stuff
together to make as painless as possible for people venturing into the use
of Linux and Speakup.
On the loadkeys thing, I think the kernel would have compiled fine without
it but when Speakup is in the mix, the script that uses loadkeys to plug in
the new key map blew. I don't recall what linux/README said about key
mapping right off the top of my head. If you like, I can take a look there
and see if INSTALLATION should speak a bit more clearly on this subject.
If I go ahead and take on some of the doc challenge, I will have plenty of
questions especially if things differ between distributions as all of my
linux experience has been with Slackware.

Hi Steve: I appreciate your ideas on what should be in the
installation documentation. We don't have an official documentation
person as of yet. Anyone wishing to volunteer or develop a group to
do documentation would be welcome. On the loadkeys issue though, the
linux/README is required reading which is outlined in the installation
document. It's job is to tell folks what all they will need to be
able to compile a kernel.
