Installing With Terminal Through Serial

Hi, everyone:

I hope this isn't too off-topic, and if it is someone may be able to e-mail 
me privately.  I did have occasion at one time to try connecting my 
Intel-based system to my laptop emulating a VT100 using Hyperterm, but I 
never could get it to work on a Linux box.  I was, however, able to connect 
to a Sparc 5.  As I said in my other note, I'm looking for ways to be able 
to do things on my own, and Nick's mentioning doing installs using a 
terminal hooked up to a serial port makes me wonder how you get this to work.
