INTEL: WE ARE RAMBUS 'ADVOCATES'
Posted at October 31, 2000 09:48 AM Pacific
OFFICIALS FOR CHIP mammoth Intel have said in the past
that Rambus memory technology "is the recipe for
performance" for the company's high-end processors,
and a company spokesperson on Tuesday said Intel's
position has not changed.
Intel restated its position after shares of Rambus
stock fell sharply Tuesday following rumors that Intel
was recalling its support for Rambus memory technology.

AOL 6.0 WREAKS HAVOC WITH SOME PCS
Posted at October 31, 2000 09:19 AM Pacific
AOL 5.0 WAS an unmitigated disaster for the online
giant. Soon after its release, users began complaining
about network settings getting blown away, key Windows
files being rewritten, and in some cases PCs becoming
utterly inoperable. Some of the same problems are
beginning to crop up with AOL 6.0, which launched last
week.
This is AOL's first client software designed to serve
all of its dial-up, cable modem and DSL customers.
Apparently the one-software-fits-all approach isn't
working out for all cable modem and DSL customers.

FINJAN BUILDS DEFENSE AGAINST PDA ATTACK
Posted at October 31, 2000 08:45 AM Pacific
SECURITY SOFTWARE COMPANY Finjan Software announced the
release of an application on Tuesday to protect
computer systems from attacks launched from PDAs
(personal data assistants).
San Jose, Calif.-based Finjan's SurfinShield Corporate
monitors the behavior of executable programs
synchronized from Palm Pilots to corporate PCs,
according to a company release. The application looks
for active Web content, such as ActiveX, Java scripts,
and executable programs coming in over a
synchronization link to a PDA, and prevents content
that breaches security policies, such as attempting to
delete a file or open a network connection.
