where is 'cvs'?

I decided to give the cvs version a try, but when I ran the 'checkout'
script I was told the command 'cvs' was not found. I am using a Slackware
7.1 distribution. I looked through the "D" series (program
development) but could not find it. Can someone please direct me to where
I can find this command? Thanks...
