yHi Terry,
Welcome to the Speakup group.  I think these are the most helpful people
in the world--a great bunch to say the least!

If you are trying to do a normal boot off of the installation floppy, you
should have downloaded decextb.bin, note the "b" rather than the "n".
Also you can insert the following line (I use line 2) in syslinux.cfg:
serial=0,9600N8
and it will start speaking prior to the boot prompt.  The "speakup"
portion should start speaking right away.
