Hi, Tommy:

I know you asked the guys, but I thought I'd give your question a shot
anyway ...

If you cannot get a persistent connection at your university--either ADSL
or cable--you will likely need an adaptor that allows you to interface an
analog device to the institution's digital phone system. All the telco
manufacturer's have such devices for their digital systems, and they tend,
unfortunately, to be fairly expensive. Sometimes, you can get a handset
that includes an analog jack. These kinds of handsets are now very common
in hotel rooms.

Your first step is to contact the folks on campus responsible for all this
technology. They already know all of the answers because they've done this
before.
