Hi John,

     You might want to try the ALSA
project.  http://www.alsa-project.org/ or, I like their ftp site
ftp.alsa-project.org.  In general, the ALSA drivers are much nicer than
anything you'd find in the kernel.  We might have an AWE64 user who would
be able to tell you how to configure it.
